College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

MIAMI (FLA.) NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Miami Hurricanes have unseated Florida St. as the No. 1 ranked team in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll after beating the Seminoles two of three games in Tallahassee, Fla. over the past weekend.

Florida St. had been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball poll eight of the last nine weeks heading into the weekend showdown. IIt marked the third straight year in the UM-FSU series that the Hurricanes have won the series in Tallahassee. The two teams will meet again this weekend in Miami to complete the 6-game set.

POLL NOTES: The longest winning streak in the nation came crashing to a halt as Florida Atlantic saw its NCAA Division I record-tying 34-game streak stopped at Jacksonville University in a 2-1, 7-inning loss. Other red-hot teams include Wichita St. (11 wins in row), Wake Forest (9 wins in last 10 games), Arizona (9 consecutive victories), and Rice (7 straight wins).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RHP Zach Schara, Northwestern: Schara hurled the first no-hitter for Northwestern since the 1994 season in a 4-0 win over Penn State. He struck out 5 batters in the 7 inning contest and walked 4.

RHP Scott Kozink, Navy: Kozink became only the fourth pitcher in school history to record a no-hitter as he helped Navy to a 7-1 win over Lehigh. It was the first no-no by a Navy pitcher since the 1978 season. Kozink struck out 8 and walked 4 on the day.

RHP Brian Wiley, The Citadel: In a 16-3 win over N.C. Greensboro, Wiley struck out a season-high 16 batters in a 9-inning complete game win. He walked three batters.

RF Dee Haynes, Delta St.: Haynes belted 6 home runs over a 6-game span last week with 17 RBI as he posted a slugging percentage of 1.207. He was 15 for 29 at the plate.

1B Sean McGowan, Boston College: McGowan belted 5 home runs and knocked in 14 runs with 10 runs scored in six games last week. He leads the team with 19 home runs in 29 games.

C/OF Brian Rogers, William & Mary: Rogers belted 5 home runs with 11 RBI in 5 games last week. He collected 8 hits in 15 at bats. Four of the homers came in one game against George Mason.
